Girls' Day celebration tea gathering (Hina dollss festival tea gathering)
We held our first "Girls' Day tea gathering celebration" this year. This is called the "Hina Doll Festival" in Japan during which people pray for the growth, safety, and healthfulness of young girls.
Before enjoying Matcha tea, we learned about the history of the "Hina Doll Festival," which started in Japan in the seventh century. Traditionally, families might use paper dolls to mark the occasion, floating them on rivers in a finale. Others use cloth dolls that have been passed from generation to generation and are put out on display.
After hearing of the traditions, we celebrated "Girls' Day" by tasting some special sweets and a drink that comes with the wish of good health and protection from evils.
The Girls’ Day celebration is one of the seasonal tea gatherings held according to the seasons to mark personal special events.
